How to play

You need paper or a whiteboard and something to draw with. Teams take turns: one player from the team that is up is the artist, presses Next word, taps the card to see the word and starts drawing as the timer runs. Their team guesses out loud. Press Guessed it! for a point or Pass when time runs out, and the next team is up with a fresh, hidden word.

The usual rules: no letters, numbers or spoken clues, no gestures, and the artist may only nod, shake their head or point at parts of the drawing. Dashes for the number of words are usually allowed; agree before you start.

Easy, medium and hard words

Easy words are single things with a clear outline, like a snail, a kite or a rainbow, and suit children who are just starting. Medium words need two or three ideas in one picture, such as a lighthouse or someone brushing their teeth. Hard words include ideas like gravity, echo and teamwork, which need clever visual hints. Mix the levels and give the harder words extra time, or play adults on hard words against children on easy ones.

Words are not repeated until every word matching your settings has been drawn.

Questions

Is this the official Pictionary game?

No. Pictionary is a trademark of its owner; this is an independent word generator you can use for any drawing and guessing game.

How do we keep score with more than two teams?

Press Add team on the scoreboard. Turns go round the teams in order, and you can edit a score with the plus and minus buttons if someone presses the wrong one.

Can I play on a phone?

Yes. The artist holds the phone with the word covered, taps to peek, and draws on paper. Big-card mode makes the word fill the screen.
